Intro to Yang Style Short Form for Beginners, If you’ve been wondering if T’ai Chi is for you, IRI's Labor Day Intensive provides three consecutive sessions for you to give it a try. Experiment with using your center to turn, shift weight and take steps. By emulating the element of water, T’ai Chi practice helps clear inner obstacles.
Form Correction for those familiar with all 37 postures of Yang Style Short Form. No matter where you are in your practice, inner development may be further cultivated. Check in with yourself, other students and teachers on specifics to improve alignment and fill each movement with energy rather than strength.
Push Hands
Afternoon sessions explore using “mind not force” in partner practice. Intro to Push Hands for Beginners. Let the surprises of timing, position and internal condition add dimension to your T’ai Chi practice. Push Hands helps develop skills in listening and focus to promote harmony internally and in relation to others. It’s a tool to improve the depth of one’s relaxation and root, and a reality check on both.
Sword Form
SUNDAY SWORD for ongoing Sword students. Sword practice raises the spirit and clarifies intent with lively stepping, jumping and extending the mind’s reach through the sword. Fencing, like Push Hands, facilitates martial communication using principles of listening, softness and presence of mind rather than the use of strength.
Tea, filtered water and healthy snacks are provided during the breaks. Feel free to bring your own supplies to hydrate and stay energized.
